Dog Training Workshops Toronto

.

Ball, Toy & Food Aggression

1 Class: 2 hours

OVERVIEW:

You want to be able to take your dog to the park or a friend’s and not worry about a possible outbreak because a ball shows up in the wrong hands – or more likely, the wrong mouth. Learning how to claim items, teaching how to properly play fetch and releasing control will create a safer, more enjoyable park experience and one where you can better interact with your dog. You’ll also be able to burn off more of your dog’s energy, too.

DIGGING DEEPER:

This class will begin by focusing on your relationship with your dog.
We will discuss in detail how to be the Pack Leader in your house and to gain respect from your dog.

WHAT WE’LL COVER:

• Claim items from their dog
• Proper Feeding Ritual
• How to properly play fetch

.

Recall

2 Classes: 1 hour each

This class is designed to build a strong “come” cue from the ground up. You will learn the do’s and don’ts of recall. You will learn how to positively reinforce coming to you, and how to eradicate or avoid any negative associations to “Come.” We will begin on leash, progress to the long leash and then eventually end on using no leash.

.

The Walk

2 Classes: 2 hours each

OVERVIEW:

Walking sounds simple. But a good on-leash dog walk is a peaceful, fun, interactive bonding experience that most dog owners will recognize is not nearly as simple as it seems. Learn to do a walk the way the pros do it. Using the same techniques our dog walking staff are trained with to walk up to six dogs at a time, you’ll master the dog walk. Say goodbye to pulling, straining, and testing. Say hello to a relaxed stroll with a good buddy.

DIGGING DEEPER:

You will learn how to be the Leader of the Pack. In this course we will address many of the obstacles you can potentially encounter on a walk. You will not only learn how to properly loose- leash walk your dog but also multiple dogs at a time. We will begin in a mildly distracting area and then slowly increase the distractions.

WHAT WE’LL COVER:

• How to hold a leash
• How to administer a correction: verbal, touch and leash
• Targeting
• Leave it
• Heel
• Balancing a Pack
• Safety: Dealing with other people and dogs in the park
• Reading your dogs posture

.

Leash Aggression

1 Class: 2 hours

OVERVIEW:

It’s a common issue. And it has nothing to do with long, angry pieces of nylon or leather. Dogs on leash will sometimes exhibit guarding behaviour. Your dog may bark, lunge or growl at passersby when on leash. It’s embarrassing, un-neighbourly and potentially threatening. But it can be fixed.

DIGGING DEEPER:

In this class you will discover what is causing your dogs leash aggression. We will assess what the dog’s behavioural threshold is and then begin desensitizing him or her to the stimuli using counter-conditioning.

WHAT WE’LL COVER:

• We will assess your technique while leash-walking
• How to make the necessary corrections.
• Discuss equipment and what exactly is appropriate for your dog.

.

Correcting Unruly Behaviour

2 Classes: 1.5 hours per class

OVERVIEW:

Counter surfing, digging, jumping, coprophagia (sounds better than poo-consumption, doesn’t it?), barking, chewing . . . . they’re all things that can drive a dog owner nuts. We’ll work with you and the group to address a series of these, showing you how they’re related, how to correct the and how to adjust the mindset in your dog that causes them in the first place.

DIGGING DEEPER:

In the class we will discuss the cause of the behaviour and then develop a treatment plan. Students will learn step-by-step how to eradicate the unwanted behaviour and maintain the new behaviour.

WHAT WE’LL COVER:

This class can address any of the following issues, depending on the needs of the clients enrolled in the class.

• Barking
• Jumping
• Jumping on Furniture
• Digging
• Nipping
• Counter Surfing
• Begging
• Coprophagia (stool eating)
